Ingredients:
1 cup toor dal
A pinch turmeric
1/2 tea spn cumin seeds(Jeera)
4-5 green chilis
A pinch asafoetida(hingu)
Salt
1/2 tea spn ghee
Coriander leaves
Method:
Cook toor dal with turmeric in pressure cooker.
Heat ghee and add jeera. When it starts popping, add chilis and asafoetida. Add cooked dal and salt. Bring it to boil. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice & ghee.
Serves : 4-5

Hi, This is no different from dalitoy accept for cummin seed ( my North india frens call it tadka dal). I saw other post with coconut. which look closer to varn. I am looking for “real” varn with “magge”

Bhatmam, We make dalithoy in different way. We add ginger to it. The coconut version is how we make varn at my native. I don’t know what you meant by “real” varn. If you please let me know from which place you are, (North Kanara or South Kanara),I might be able to find the dish you want. Thanks.
Its my bad. I was confused with the other dish made with Magggem with varn. The one with coconut is the real varn i was looking for:-). BTW I am from NK. Congratulation for putting fantastic website!
