Kokum Dal ( Sola Dalithoy)

A simple tangy dal with kokum
  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 5-6 pieces of kokum
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • 1 tea spn mustard seeds
  • A pinch turmeric
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • Oil/Ghee
  • A pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tbl spn chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt
  1. Cook dal with turmeric, slit green chillies, kokum and water in pressure cooked (about 3-4 whistles) till dal is mushy.
  2. Add salt and enough water to dal to get it to required consistency.
  3. Cook till it starts boiling, take off the heat.
  4. Heat a little oil and add mustard seeds.
  5. When they start popping, add curry leaves, asafoetida.
  6. Pour the seasoning over dal.
  7. Garnish dal with coriander leaves.
  8. Serve hot with rice.
