I love your site. I remember eating this with sprouted moong dal in B'bay and Pune as well. Goda is the king of spices that can make anyhtign taste good! I sometimes add it to zucchini with some coconut and even zucchini shines!

This is served with bata vada too in some places...was it called 'matki' there ?

Wow, this looks wonderful. I haven't cooked a good curry for ages - I have not been cooking much at all this summer. I can almost smell your dal from here.

Hi Shilpa,

Whether galic is chopped one or grind? Also in the picture its look like that you have used tomatos which is not covered in ingradients.

Shilpa: You can chop or grind, does not make any difference. I did not add tomatoes, but u can add them if you want

I hope your new job works well for you! I've seen this amti made with chana and toovar, but this is the first time with moong. I love moong- one of my faves! Could I add a little gur?
BTW, looks like the ultra cold spell is leaving today for a bit; it gets better from here, so hang in there!

Shilpa: Actually, the traditional chana dal version from my pachi is coming up :). I think jaggery will give a nice sweet twist to this amti (V does not prefer sweetish dals, so I keep it spicy all the time).
Well, I hope you are right. I will be the happiest person if the cold spell leaves. We had extreme cold for last 2 days. Too much snow too :((
