I tried it this morning. I substituted whole wheat with barley and it was absolutely delicious and crispy. I did not want to buy the big packet of whole wheat, also i was not sure if my blender would grind the soaked wheat. Since i had barley i went ahead and substituted it.

Hi Shilpa

I found the whole wheat in an Indian grocery store. There were 2 varieties, brown wheat and white wheat (looked like polished wheat). I bought the brown one. Is it OK ?

Shall try this next weekend..

Shilpa: Yes Chetana. I think you can use it.

Shilpa

I have been a regular visitor of your website but never found the time to post. I love to cook and experiment with different ingredients. I actually make this dosa--my mom and me came u with it for my dad who is diabetic but hated to let go of his morning dosas. In my case, I use dalia instead of whole wheat berries. They turn out wonderful and crispy and brown.

Thanks for a wonderful blog, I just thought I should register my appreciation instead of always taking off recipes and trying them. I will try to post more often.

By the way, do you know where we can get whole wheat berries in the US?

Nirmala

Shilpa: Indian store.

Hey Shilpa,
I tried your recipe today but with a small change.I used whole wheat flour( the brown colored one) and the dosas were awesome ! I was not sure if my blender would grind the wheat to a fine consistency so used flour.
Thanks for the innovative idea.
