Aaah..gasgase tambli in the afternoon and you're assured of the best nap ever. This can even be diluted and consumed as a beverage. Like lassi. :)

Hi Shilpa,

Your recipes are very good..I have tried some and my husband and I have always appreciated the outcome!! :).

Regarding the above recipe, my husband has an allergy to milk products, so I cannot use yoghurt. Is there an alternative? will Soya yoghurt taste the same?

Shilpa: Sweta, I have never tasted/used soya yogurt, so don't know how it will taste in this. I am very sorry. But if you have prepared any other tamblis with the soya yogurt, it will work for this too.

Looks like a very nice Tambli, Shilpa.
Have got to try this one..

Tamblis are normally not cooked. if it is cooked, it becomes a kadhi. Wonder how it will taste if not cooked.

Did you serve it hot or cold with the rice ?

thanks for a new Tambli recipe-love all of them.

Shilpa: Chetna, here yogurt/buttermilk is not cooked. In this case, since poppy seeds are roasted, I think it will taste good even if the paste is not cooked. It is served cold(room temperature).Tamblis can have one or more cooked ingredients. I updated post for more clarification

Poppy seeds are quite a routine additive in sweet Kheers made during ceremonial lunches. It is not only soothing but has an excellent soporific effect.

Thanks for the Tambli suggestion. Any tambli is always welcome. Quite a few ladies around Bangalore, South Kanara use green leaves of Cauliflower, White radish (tender though) for making tambliees.
