Coorg style chicken with tomatoes(Koli barthad)

02.02.2008 · Posted in Chicken, NonVeg

This is another dish that I cooked from Coorg special. This is a very simple dish to make and turns out lip smacking good. I love such simple dishes when I am making a big spread. It helps to increase the number of dishes ;) .

Ingredients:
1/4 kg chicken
1/4 tea spn turmeric powder
1/2 tea spn red chili powder
1/4 tea spn cumin powder
1/2 cup onion
3-4 strands coriander leaves
1/4 cup tomato
1 tea spn chopped garlic
1/2 tea spn pepper powder
1 tea spn chopped ginger
4 green chilies
1 tbl spn lemon juice
Oil
Salt

Method:
Add turmeric, salt and red chili powder to chicken pieces and keep aside.
Heat oil and add chopped green chilies, ginger, garlic, onion till onions turn brownish. Add tomatoes and fry for some time. Add chicken pieces, fry for about 5mins. Pour about 1/2 cup water, cover and cook till chicken is almost done.
Now add cumin powder, pepper and cook till chicken is completely done. Now pour the lemon juice and cook till all water is absorbed.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Serves : 3-4
Preparation time : 20mins

  3. Chicken looks delicious.
    And so easy o make

  4. chicken looks hot and spicy.

  5. Shilpa..wow..this quick-to-make dry chicken dish has me drooling..2 queries..will it taste good with bone-less chicken too? how long it needs to be marinated for.

Shilpa: Yes Purnima. Boneless chicken also works fine here. Actually long marination is not required. Apply salt, chili, turmeric to the chicken and keep aside till it is time to add to the dish – just may be 5-10 mins till you get everything else ready.

  6. Yummy looking chicken. I think the lack of too many masalas must be key to this delish dish

  7. I love your chicken recipes Shilpa…. I make a very similar version when I am in a hurry too…

  8. Thanks for resolving, Shilpa.

Everyone seems to be praising you. The receipes are good and you seem to provide a lot of choice…but you need to drastically improve on the quality of photography and the overall layout of the site…take professional help if needed. It will give you more milage. Thanks

Shilpa: Thanks Wel wisher for your inputs. I am doing whatever I can do and I am continuously trying to improve.

  11. shilpa,
i used firefox and IE. but i was able to view the pics from home. so it looks like my officer server blocks some contnets from ur website.

Shilpa: Thanks Sia for letting me know. We had to disable hotlinking to pictures because we found many blogs/sites hotlinking to our pictures. It was creating unnecessary load on server :( . We will check to see what we can do about it.
