Batatya Goju will be on top on my list of comfort foods. My mother adds a little bit of tamarind(after soaking it in water) to give it a slightly "ambashi" taste.
You are doing an excellent job with this blog/website.

It is amazing how rich and varied the Konkani cuisine is. Phanna Upkari is great example. I grew up eating 3 different variations of this dish. One my mother (from Kumta) makes. the other two my aunts from Honavar and Ankola make. All 3 taste great with subtle differences. I 'll try to send you the recipes one of these days.

A recipe request. Do you have recipe for "Nagle Song"?

Thanks

Sunil

Shilpa: Sunil, I don't have the recipe for Nagle sukke as of now. I will try to find it.

I agree with bee.. a true comfort food!!!

My mom adds finely chopped onions and granishes with coriander leaves. She also adds urad dal(black gram) to the tempering.

Another variation she does is by parboinling tomato and mashing it along with potato.

To both versions, she adds lime juice to make it tangy !!!

I do this as side dish with Chitranna when I am too bored to make the normal one with cucumber, tomato and carrot which asks for too much chopping :-)
I just add chilies and yougurt.Sometimes I don't even do seasoning.
