We live in Connecticut. We couldn't find horse in any Indian store. We even tried Indian Stores in New Jersey. Any idea about buying it online?

Shilpa: Sorry, I don't know.

Hi,
Horsegram can't be this color. When i make horsegram curries at home, i always get a deep red-maroon color. Wonder what gram you have used in the above picture.

I have tried different recipies - this is the best I have found - http://www.mangalorean.com/recipes/recipes.php?recipeid=459

Shilpa: I used horsegram itself and I am sure about it. If the gram is very new, it does not give the color sometimes. As it gets older, it gives dark red color. Why don't you give this dish a try?

Hi Shilpa,

How does your koddel look yellow in color..?Did U add haldi? Becos mine's always brown. U can add either Gabbo (tender banana-stem) or mugge or Koook or baby potatoes, instead of vegetables...
Also U can use sprouted kulith ( in plain , surbuus masol)and give vagaar of onions to make Kultha-Ambatt.

Shilpa: Nita, I didn't add haldi. Its because of chilies that I have used. I don't get very dark chilies here, the ones I used don't give that beautiful color. I did mention kooka as one of the vegetables. Never used magge or gabbo though. Will try next time.

Dear Shilpa,

Try this koddel with "vaali" instead of drumstick. That tastes nice too.
