Hey...this is apna "Chana Masala" as they call on Mumbai streets. And I have seen some vendors fry the steamed green grams in butter and then add tomatoes, onions, chilly/red chilly powder, raw mango and sprinkle chaat masala..yummy.

And their USP...."Amul butter Chana masala"...they use Amul butter and charge Rs.2 or 3 more :))

Shilpa this is a great chaat but as you mentioned it is just called Chana in Mumbai and is made with green chana. Next time you try it out cook the chana till just soft drain the water ( you can use the water for rasam or saar). Then mix in the other stuff. It is a common site to see a hand cart nicely layered with boiled green chana decorated with friery green chilies and halved nimbu. The street version is drier as they serve in paper cones. It is made best by the Bhaiyas in Mumbai. They taste amazing but don't ask where they cooked it.

That is an awesome recipe Shilpa. Nothing can beat the earthy flavors of street vendors (when cooked hygienically, of course) and now that we are in US, getting the same taste at home is just nostalgic.
I wish you and your family a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
