Banana rotti

11.28.2006 · Posted in Breakfast or snacks

Are you a banana flavor lover? If yes, this recipe is for you. If no, please ignore it. Usually I buy bananas everytime I go for grocery shopping. But then I forget to eat them and they get black spots on them. So I use such over ripe bananas to make some dishes. One such dish is this banana rotti. My friend’s mom Mrs. Sheela Hebbal gave me this recipe. This dish gets ready in literally 20mins.

Ingredients:
1 cup rice flour
1 big ripe banana
1 tea spn jaggery
1/2 cup coconut
Oil/ghee
Salt

Method:
Cook banana, jaggery and salt in 1/2 cup water. Turn off the heat.
When it is still hot, add rice flour, coconut and mix. Spread it on the hot tava with hand. Apply oil and fry from both sides.
Serve hot.

Serves : 2
Preparation time: 15min

  1. Hi Shilpa,

My mom doesn’t cook the bananas.. she mixes all the above ingredients and spreads it on to the tava. We call it ‘Kelyache Maskat’

  2. Sorry forgot to add some more comments: In my mother’s version of this, we mix the wheat flour, ripe bananas, water, jaggery, cardomom powder and use ghee instead of oil. But rice flour is interesting..will try it some time. Thanks.

  8. Hi Shilpa, glad to hear you had a nice time at Thanksgiving — did you enjoy Colorado Springs? I vacationed there this summer and thought it was so pretty.

  9. Hi Shilpa, This is so much easier than the Banana mulik/ muluk, that I make. I freeze all my overripe bananas, so I have a ready stash to make your recipe. Thanks a bunch !

  10. This is a nice healthier recipe of what I am used to eating.
My mom makes banana puris (mangalore buns). We mix mashed mashed ripe banana’s with maida. Add a little salt (1 tsp). Usually since the banana’s are ripe you don’t any extra water to make the dough, but if needed a little yoghurt is added. Deep fry on low heat till almost dark brown color. They are very tasty..

  13. Dolly,
Is it necessry that banana should be ripe or can we use one which is not so ripe.

  14. Dolly, it is better if banana is ripe. But if you have semi ripe and sweet banana, you can use that too.

Hi Shilpa, I used to throw the over ripe bananas. I tried your recipe. All my family members liked this recipe very much. Thank you for the same.

Try making the same with rava , green chilli , very little jaggery and ginger. No cardmom. You need to add enough water to soak the rava for a few mins. We call it kelle bhakri. I give it all the time as a breakfast to my kid.

btw i do not cook the bananas .i just mix them and leave it for 5-10 mins..then spread it on the tava with my fingers. Cover it with lid and let it cook on once side. This sure needs a little oil..else it can get dry. It stays well when cold too.
