In Kerala stew is called OLEN. It is made with coconut milk (as garnishing). Onion is not used.

Hi Shilpa,

To this dish, add coconut milk in the end and also add slightly crushed curry leaves and coconut oil (or any oil if you do not use coconut oil.). Simmer it on a very low flame and the moment you feel its warm enough, shut off the gas. This is now Beans Ishtu. My bappamma and amma would make it mostly on weekends especially with Soi Polo and Vellappam. They also made Batatya Ishtu which has cloves and cinnamon. Though I do not remember turmeric in the dish.

I enjoyed reading your recipes. I have a whole collection of my mom's and mom-in-law's recipe in a diary. But I can never make the dishes as tasty as they make it. I feel like going back to India forever.
