As mentioned in the recipe, you have to leave the batter for 6hrs. Yes, you can use idli rice.

Shilpa, sorry - I thought by mentioning the site from where the recipe came, it would be OK. Now how do I delete the recipe from the original comment (# 15)?

Shilpa, I have been reading the recipes at this site for some time and have tried some of them. You have done a wonderful job at this site. I tried a Rava Dosa recipe from bawarchi.com posted by Sujata Madhusudhan and they come out nice and crisp. She had not mentioned the amount of water, so after trying couple of times, it came out best when using 4 cups water. Her recipe:
1 cup rava, 1/4 cup maida, 1/2 cup buttermilk (I use thick curds), 3-4 green chillies, 1 inch ginger, salt (I use 1/2 tsp), cumin seeds and 1 large onion - finely chopped. Mix 1st 3 items and 4 cups water. She said to grind chillies and ginger but I slice the chillies and finely chop the ginger. Add chillies, ginger and salt. I set aside for 1/2 hour. Heat tava and pour batter - dosas will have lots of holes. Sprinkle chopped onions and jeera . I spread oil around dosa and in a few of the holes. Cook on medium flame on one side only until crisp. Try this recipe and let me know how it comes out. Keep up the great job!

Shilpa: Sheila, it is copyright violation to post the recipes from other sites. So please just leave a link to original recipe and mention the changes you have made. Thanks for understanding

shilpa,
can u tell me how can i make rava dosa using the Dosa Batter.

Shilpa: Viji, sorry I don't know. Both the batters are totally different, so I am not sure if you can make rava dosa from normal dosa(urad dosa) batter.
